I got to meet The Pioneer Woman last night and it was everything I hoped it would be…and more!! She came to Pasadena on her book tour for her new cookbook that came out last month. I almost talked myself into not going because of how long I would have to wait. The bookstore website wasn’t clear on how the line worked, thank goodness I called! The line was grouped into letters, so when you purchased your book from the store (which was the only way to get a ticket) you were put into a letter starting with A. Well I had no idea, so I ended up in letter F which I thought sounded great. Then I found out it was about 100 people per letter!! So I figured I was somewhere between 500-600 people back… but I showed up at 4:30pm and got in the F line with 6 people already ahead of me so I was number 507. There were still about 4 letters of groups behind me plus the 93 other people in group F.
I waited in line a total of 4 hours, which wasn’t bad until the last 45-60 minutes. By then, I was getting cold and my feet were hurting. Thankfully I was in line with other Pioneer Woman fanatics so we talked food, recipes, etc. the whole time.
About the last 20 minutes, Jesse joined me from studying at Starbucks and took pictures from afar.
And then I got to get inside the bookstore which meant I was about 10 people away. AND then she went on break! My friend was texting me and asked if she was as nice in person as she is on her show and I said a big resounding YES! When she went on her break (just a quick 5 minutes… which I don’t blame her after signing 500 copies or more!) she kept apologizing and then she came back and waved to everyone and apologized but was so nice.
The bookstore had a nice setup to keep the line moving along. When we first got in line, 4 hours prior, someone was walking around with post it notes so that we could get our book personalized if we wanted. Once we were about 5 people back one guy got our books all set up and ready to get signed for us. Then when we were next in line we handed our phones or cameras to a guy who took our picture for us – so everyone got a book signed and a picture taken.
What a surreal moment, this was a dream for me to meet her!! Even though it lasted only about 30 seconds I was totally star struck. I don’t even remember what I said but I think I said “HAAII” when I walked up to her, oh man kind of embarrassing. She told me I looked pretty tonight which totally caught me off guard and was so incredibly nice of her and then I said something along the lines of I am so excited to meet you thank you so much for coming out to see us! She’ll probably remember me as being the pretty and polite girl she met. :)
And just like that, I had two signed cookbooks made out to me and a picture with her! Dream come true!! :)
If you’re a fan – you must see her at a book signing sometime! And buy your tickets early. Also, I hear she will speak at certain small town book signings so I hope to catch one of those events next time.
