We are just about half way through summer – which is crazy to think it’s already one week into July – and I’ve survived so far! Summertime in Loma Linda in one word: HOT. It’s hot in the morning on my way to work and it’s hot all night long.. it’s a never ending cycle of warm temperatures. Thank goodness we have air conditioning and lots of ceiling and box fans! Oh and a freezer full of popsicles! :) I just remember coming to Loma Linda last summer on the hottest day of the year here at 112*, I am so not looking forward to more days like that!
Jesse finished up his first year of medical school in June – he finished all his classes in May and then spent the next four weeks shadowing a couple different doctors in the hospital. This summer he’s spending his time working on a research project which keeps him busy but also gives him a really flexible schedule and he gets to work from home! I’m definitely enjoying seeing him around the house more often and soaking up those moments because I know once second year starts I’ll be seeing him a whole lot less.
It’s been a super fun and busy summer for us – we’ve had lots of family visit and we’ve taken a few trips to go see family. In May, my brother and sister-in-law came down for a long weekend and then the next weekend Jesse and I flew to Seattle to spend Memorial Day weekend with my family. Several weeks later my sister made a last minute trip to come down and spend a weekend here, which was a lot of fun! The next weekend Jesse and I took a “mini vacation” and spend 3 days and 2 nights in San Diego – it was a perfect getaway weekend to enjoy cooler weather and take in a lot of San Diego sights that we’ve wanted to do while we’re here. Including the San Diego Zoo, the USS Midway and La Jolla beach.
Right after that weekend trip to San Diego Jesse was diagnosed with having shingles! That week was a long and painful week but we made it through and Jesse is doing so much better now! His dad drove down that weekend just to make sure Jesse was doing alright and to spend time with him while I had to be at work.
Then the next weekend, which was last weekend, we flew up to Sacramento to spend the Fourth of July with all of Jesse’s immediate and extended family. Unfortunately the trip was short but it was so fun to see family that we haven’t seen in a year or more.
Things have been a little hectic but sometimes crazy busy is good for us, although I have to say, we’re looking forward to the next few weeks being a little slower paced.
