One of my most favorite tricks I have recently discovered in the kitchen is how to keep my cilantro fresh! I love having cilantro on hand; it’s one of my most favorite fresh herbs, but it always seemed to get old too quickly in the fridge. I decided to test a few ideas and see what I could find. Using this method to keep the cilantro fresh allows me to keep it in my fridge for up to 4 weeks (sometimes even longer) and it’s still just as fresh as the day I bought it!
- Keep the cilantro in the bundle it comes in, and stick the ends into a mason jar or other glass jar.
- Fill the jar with fresh cool water then cover the cilantro with the little plastic bag it comes in from the grocery store.
- Tie the bag loosely around the leaves and then stick it into your fridge.
That’s it! and now you have fresh cilantro for weeks!! To help keep the herb fresh, dump out the water and refill with fresh water once a week. This prevents stinky water, for one, but also helps keep the dirty water from ruining the cilantro.
I used cilantro as my example because it’s the herb that I buy the most, but it also works great for Parsley and other herbs as well.
