We got picked up from the airport two hours ago and now I am sitting down on our couch, cuddled in a blanket and sweatshirt putting all my thoughts together to write this post. (Since we’ve been gone so long and it’s been so cold here our house is freezing right now!!)
We’ve been gone a total of 16 days and what a refreshing 16 days it was! We had Christmas two times, saw lots of family and friends, did some indoor skydiving, welcomed in a new year, married off my brother and played a lot of games. This was the longest we’ve been gone since we moved to Loma Linda which made it extra hard leaving home and coming back.
Our first week was spent with Jesse’s family in Oroville and Redding for Christmas. It has been a year and a half since we had last been to his parents house (right after we had gotten married) which is crazy to think it had been that long but it was so great to get to spend more than just a couple days up there. The week spent up in Northern California was a very relaxing time for Jesse and I, recuperating from tests and the stress of a new job. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Redding at Jesse’s grandparents house where we got to see most of the Keeler family. This was my very first Christmas that I spent away from my family; it was a great day but also didn’t fully feel like Christmas to me. Also, because it was my first Christmas with the Keeler family I had to read the Christmas story from the family Bible for everyone there. I really am so grateful for such a wonderful in-law family!
From Sacramento we flew to Seattle to spend the rest of our break with my family. This last week of break was a little crazier due to my brother getting married on January 2nd. Our week was spent getting ready to host the rehearsal dinner at my parents house which was also a New Year’s Eve party and preparing for the wedding day. My sister and I were both bridesmaids in the wedding so on Monday night we went out with the rest of the girls and did some indoor skydiving! When we found out about this event a few months ago I had said no way I am not doing that – but yet I did it and even paid a little extra money to go even higher with the instructor. What a fun night!! My new sister is quite the adventurous lady, so I’m going to have to start learning how to keep up with her!! ;)
What a fun week we had though – I still can’t believe my brother is married, it feels a little weird! The wedding was absolutely gorgeous and completely Christ-centered – the perfect wedding for the two of them! (When we get some professional pictures back I’ll share a little – there should be some really cool shots). The wedding really was perfect timing for Jesse and I because we were already planning this trip home before they had settled on a wedding date, and it worked into our schedule well. It was wonderful having a chance to catch up with all my family who I don’t get to see too often, and also long time family friends.
I did a lot of baking and cooking at both homes over break which was a lot of fun for me! I made Christmas sugar cookies with Georgette at her home and then made Christmas breakfast for the family up in Redding. In Seattle, well the whole week consisted of cooking since we had lots of extra people at our home for the wedding and hosted the rehearsal dinner.
But now we’re back in Loma Linda and almost ready for bed because work and school start back up again tomorrow! The breaks always seem to fly by so quickly but it is nice getting back into our routine again. It was a perfect two weeks and exactly what Jesse and I needed to refresh ourselves for this New Year!
